Shear Wind Fact Sheet

The Glen Dhu Wind Farm near Merigomish, Nova Scotia is owned by Glen Dhu Wind Energy Limited Partnership, of which Shear Wind Inc. is the majority shareholder. Shear Wind is a Nova Scotia‐based wind energy company. The wind farm will produce 62.1 MW of electrical power.

The company has signed a 20‐year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Nova Scotia Power to produce wind‐generated electricity for Nova Scotians. This is enough power for about 18,000 homes.

The investment in this location is as a result of over two years of study and testing, and the successful completion of a rigorous environmental approval process with the province of Nova Scotia.

Shear Wind Inc. has additional wind projects in various stages of development in Alberta, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and in Nova Scotia.

Economic Benefits

The Glen Dhu project represents a $150 million investment in Nova Scotia. Of this total, we anticipate investing over $100 million in infrastructure (wind turbines, substation, interconnection costs) and over $50 million in construction costs which include many local contractors.

The construction phase is underway and the workforce is currently at about 100 jobs and as of the end of September, approximately 46,000 person‐hours have been expended. Over 41 local companies from the Antigonish and Pictou counties have been contracted and this has resulted in approximately 65% of the person‐hours being expended with these companies. The total Nova Scotia content to date is approximately 87% of the total. On the operations side, Enercon is building its Nova Scotia workforce to get ready for the turbine maintenance contract.

Much of the land used for the project is locally‐owned woodlot properties. The wind farm will enable this land to provide additional income to landowners. Approximately $430,000 per year in royalties will be paid to local landowners. This means that over $8.6 million over the 20‐year duration of the agreement will be injected into the local economy. The wind farm will contribute approximately $360,000 per year in property tax to the two counties, and over $7.2 million during the 20‐year agreement.

Community

A community liaison committee has been meeting regularly since February 2009. The committee
membership is eight people consisting of a cross section of interests. The purpose of the committee is to provide feedback to Glen Dhu Wind Energy LP on community affairs and relations.

Glen Dhu Wind Energy LP has a number of community support initiatives underway. These efforts are focused on public education and support for public services.

Technical Details

Twenty‐seven Enercon E82, 2.3 MW turbines will be installed. The turbines are considered world‐class equipment, and are currently in use around the world. They are among the most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly turbines in the world.

The turbines will be delivered by ship to Nova Scotia and transported to the Glen Dhu Wind Farm site by road, which will be undertaken according to the guidelines of the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. The turbine towers have been sourced from Canadian
suppliers.
