Glen Dhu
The Glen Dhu project is located in an area adjacent to two existing 235kV lines as well as a 138kV line, all of which are validated Nova Scotia Power (NSPI) Interconnections. When developed this wind farm opportunity has the potential of providing power for approximately 50,000 homes per year.
Shear Wind is working with community organizations and targets construction for 2009. There are three monitoring towers collecting wind data which will help to determine final placement of the turbine layout. The plan is to utilize turbines of 2MW size and 80 meter height.
Project Overview
- Land base: 10,000 acres East of New Glasgow, N.S. Average elevation is 250m.
- Potential Wind Farm Size: A total of 230 MW
- Wind monitoring data indicates an above average wind resource. Wind Resource Assessment completed by Phoenix Engineering Ltd (Genivar) provides excellent results for capacity, long term projections, and potential electricity generation.
- Shear Wind responded to the 2007 Nova Scotia Power RFP for renewable energy generation.
- Transmission options: Interconnection Study in progress for adjacent Nova Scotia Grid on a 138kVa Transmission Line.
